The Bay Area has been absolutely firing since November 1st. There are hundreds if not thousands of people out trying to catch the first Dungeness Crabs of the season. The striped bass are still running. Perch are feeding on baitfish from the shore. If you’re not getting out there, you’re missing out!

Crabbing from Shore 🔥

If I had a boat I would probably be writing about all the limits of crab I was catching offshore. But for many of us, unless we are shedding some cash for a charter, that just isn’t reality. We’re forced to compete with our fellow shore fisherman for the precious oceanfront real estate, in search of the keepers.

Where are People Catching Dungeness?

I’m sure you’ve all seen that viral video of people crabbing on Pacifica Pier. It’s no surprise that the pier was absolutely chock-full of people. If you’re heading there in gnarly conditions, be sure to be safe and bring a massive weight. Those swells can be no joke sometimes.

I spent my weekend at Bodega Bay and was lucky to nab some rock crabs but only pulled up under-sized Dungeness, which I of course released. But they’re out there! The problem with the jetties are there are so many rock crabs in the mix. If I was you I’d find some quiet beaches south of Sonoma and make my play in the surf.
